After graduating, Lauren pursued her Master’s degree in Nutrition from East Carolina University which brought the Barbers to New Bern, NC. In the fall of 2013 Matt began pursuing his Master’s in Sport Management from East Carolina and will be finishing this summer after completing his internship with the Charlotte Eagles.
How & Why did you become a MAI Missionary?
Growing up, I thought it would be a perfect position for me to be a missionary soccer player. Little did I know that the Lord would lead me to the Chicago Eagles’ Summer Academy in 2008. This experience changed my life as I was able to witness God’s work of transforming lives through the game of soccer. In 2009, God once again led me to be a part of that team and serve as part of Leadership Training Program. During this time I gained more appreciation for the work that God was doing through Missionary Athletes International and sports ministry. Ever since then I have wanted to work with MAI and use my love for sports to reach others with the love of God. I am blessed to be able to witness the work that God is continuing to do through this beautiful game.
